Addiction prevention and counselling

Before unfulfilled desires develop into addictions...
I provide counselling for people affected by addiction and for their managers and colleagues/teams from technical, administrative and academic fields.

High-risk and dependent consumption of addictive substances and addictive behaviour (e.g. media addiction) continue to stabilise at a high level and are making a mark in the world of work especially. Unfortunately, the negative effects of addictive substance use and addictive behaviour apply to universities too and can be found in all areas of work and status groups.

Alcohol, medications and drugs not only fail as “problem-solvers” in the workplace, but also prove to be harmful to health both acutely and in the long term, and exacerbate professional and social problems in the long run. High-risk consumption and addictive behaviour not only harm the employees concerned, but also have a major impact on work performance and occupational safety, and put a huge strain on the social atmosphere in the workplace.

The University of Cologne and the staff representatives therefore consider the measures for internal addiction prevention, further training and early help in the event of a risk of addiction and an addiction disorder to be important concerns in terms of health promotion, occupational safety and the duty of care.

The new Work Agreement Addiction Prevention and dealing with Addiction Problems in the Workplace meet the requirements. It is the basis of a uniform, comprehensible action concept and replaces the service agreement of March 2013.
